Stratford-upon-Avon Station in June 1964 with ex Great Western Railway 0-6-0 2251 class No 2211 departing on the 8:43am local to Leamington. This locomotive was built at Swindon works in May 1940 as part of lot 337. At nationalisation in December 1947 this locomotive was known to have been allocated to Taunton shed. In November 1964 No 2211 was withdrawn and scrapped by J Cashmore. With a B power group and a yellow route classification, the locomotives of the 2251 class were designed to replace the elderly double framed 0-6-0 goods locomotives on the rural routes where a lighter axle weight was required. They proved to be a useful and versatile design regularly handling both local passenger and freight turns.
