Close up of image 'gwrsa1539' showing Flower & Sons sidings, the barley house and bottling plant with the GWR's water tank at the throat to the yard in the near distance. The white roofed van to the right appear both to be new and of Southern Railways origin whilst the one to the left might be a GWR Guards Van. Whilst most of the wagons are carrying coal some are sheeted which would indicate that their load was in need of protection from the elements. Next to the barley house is a large coal stack which most likely would have been purchased during the summer period when coal was at a discount. At the time the photograph was taken, 1924, there was increasing disruption in the coal fields due to strike action so the reserve would have also had a strategic function.
