GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Hatton

Ex-GWR 4-6-0 Hall class No 5990 'Dorford Hall' is seen departing Stratford on Avon on the 9:35am Swansea to Wolverhampton service in 1957. The train was timed to leave Stratford on Avon station at 1:30pm. By 1957 British Railways had introduced their new Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) on the Birmingham and Cardiff services although steam locomotives still ran regularly on Saturdays. Built by Swindon works to Lot 249 in December 1939 No 5990 remained in service until January 1965 when it was withdrawn from 2D Banbury shed to be scrapped in June 1965 by J Friswell of Banbury.
