GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Moor Street Station: gwrms2761

View of the upper level goods facilities at Moor Street seen during demolition work of adjacent buildings

View of the upper level goods facilities at Moor Street taken in 1960 when demolition for the Inner Ring Road had removed the parade of shops opposite. In the centre of the photograph fronting Moor Street is the Main Goods Offices with the two curved-head windows of the Chief Clerk’s office adjacent to the matching street entrance (see 'gwrms2745'). Behind this building is the truck hoist to Shed A (underneath) and the High level Goods Shed, while a number of covered wagons can also be seen in the yard.

The front elevation of the Goods Office was carefully dismantled and retained when this area was redeveloped for the new Bull Ring Shopping Centre, with the intention of re-erecting it as the entrance to the new Moor Street Station platforms which had been built adjacent to the Snow Hill tunnel exit on the through main line. This was not done however due to the weight of the frontage directly which would have been directly above the New Street tunnel and this front elevation remains in storage awaiting another project.
