Ex-LMS 2-6-2T 3P No 40002 passes the approaches to Moor Street station whilst on a down local service to Snow Hill station. The locomotive was allocated to 2E Warwick Milverton (ex-LNWR) shed in July 1949 and had obviously been pressed into service in the absence of GWR locomotive power. Built as LMS No 2 at Derby works in March 1930, No 40002 was renumbered as such by British Railways in June 1949 and carried the number until November 1959 when it was withdrawn from Wolverton works where it had been allocated in June 1957. It is assumed that the 'British Railways' lettering was added at the same time as the number was changed to 40002.
