View of the traverser manufactured by Messrs SH Heywood & Company which was located in lower shed 'A' at the Park Street end of the shed. In shed 'A' the sidings on either side of the cart road were 100 feet apart, and only these two sidings are served by the traverser. The Great Western Railway decided to drive the traverser by an induction motor of the one speed cascade type, as made by Sandycroft Ltd, and arranged to creep while exerting full load torque. Contemporary reports state that this latter feature proved most useful in aligning the traverser rails with the siding or lift cage rails.
