An internal view of lower shed 'A' still under construction showing the unloading platform on the left, the roadway in the centre and the office on the right. Lower level shed 'A' was used to accommodate metal traffic for Birmingham's booming local engineering industry. The photographer is standing at the Park Street entrance to the shed whilst in the foreground are the sets of rails which carried the traverser to move wagons from one side of the shed to another. The use of ferroconcrete allowed the shed ample space between columns whilst supporting the high level shed and station above.
