GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington South Junction: gwrls3972
A post 1961 external view of Leamington South Junction
Signal Box showing the coal bunker to the left. On the right the single storey
extension is just visible. In image 'gwrls806' it
can be seen to have slit windows indicating a wartime build (possibly a look
out point for the ARP or Home Guard as it overlooks the canal, not an air raid
shelter as it has a corrugated roof). Note the track is flat-bottom fixed with
elastic spikes, not bull-head in chairs. The LMS trialled flat-bottom track in
1936 and introduced elastic spikes in 1939, but the GWR only introduced these
in 1946.
