Leamington Spa Station: gwrls2143

Part of the 1886 OS map showing the northern approach to Leamington's original station and goods yard

Part of the 1886 OS map showing the northern approach to Leamington's original station and goods yard. At the top on the extreme left is the single track which connected the LNWR and GWR north of the station. The goods shed is seen still in its original position with two roads passing through the shed both ending in a short siding with connecting points. To the left of the goods shed is a weighing machine located on one of the approach sidings. To the right of and below the weighing machine are two cranes, one having a 6 ton capacity and being used when fitted with a grab to unload coal for the nearby gasworks which predated the station. The passenger footbridge appears to be shorter in length than that seen on late maps as well as having a connection to the up platform. The station has been enlarged to accommodate another platform. The platform appears to be a stand alone insofar as it can only accommodating traffic on the up side of the loop. The rear of the main up platform appears not to have any hard standing to accommodate passengers accessing passenger coaches.
