GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Spa Station: gwrls2126
View of Leamington's newly rebuilt up platform with only the
painting to complete on 27th October 1939. The connection in the foreground led
to the down side dock siding which had first been installed in 1852. Whilst
originally used to load and unload road vehicles and horses, in later days it
was occasionally used as a refuge by pilot passenger locomotives when detaching
from a down train. The signal gantry has been incorporated into the ornate
steel work holding up the platform canopy. The new section of brick in the
centre and on the face of the platform was required to increase the height of
the platform, the original 1852 section being lower than the sections at either
end which were built later.
