Close up showing Handsworth & Smethwick station's name board repainted in BR maroon and cream livery and the goods yard which was located behind Platform Four. The small sign to the right of the station sign with the figure '6' has the word 'cars' below indicating to drivers of Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) that 6 car units that they should stop opposite. Behind the two cement wagons is a mobile road crane for unloading heavy objects including the early railway containers which fitted on to four wheel flat wagons. To the right of the photograph can be seen a warning sign - "Passengers must not to cross the line except by means of the footbridge".
