GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hatton Station: gwrhj1918
Ex-GWR 4-6-0 No 4092 'Dunraven Castle' passes Hatton North
Junction signals whilst at the head of an up express service. Built at Swindon
works to Lot 232 in August 1925 No 4092 remained in service until December 1961
when it was withdrawn from 81F Oxford shed. The bracket signal has three sets
of signals controlling access to, from left to right, the branch loop to
Stratford on Avon, the up main line to Hatton and the smallest controlling
access to the loop refuge siding. The top signal arm on the middle post in the
lowered position is the home signal allowing the train to proceed past
this position. The lower signal arm on the same post is the distant
signal for Hatton South Junction and being in the lowered position tells the
driver that the home signal at Hatton South Junction is in the 'off' or safe
position. Signals controlling access to sidings at busy junctions were often
made shorter to avoid confusing the crew of approaching trains.
