GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Hatton Station: gwrhj106a

Close up showing the main island platform brick built building with plain gabled slate roof constructed circa 1860

Close up of image 'gwrhj106' showing the main island platform brick built building with plain gabled slate roof constructed circa 1860. The building contained a gentlemen’s toilet, ladies waiting room and lavatory, refreshment room and kitchen. The canopy was added circa 1897 and extended the full length of the building on both the down main line (right) and branch bay line (left). In this view, beyond the platform building and footbridge can be seen the new 84 lever South Signal Box constructed on the island platform at the Birmingham end of the station in January 1937. This replaced both the old South and Middle Signal Boxes and simplified the station operation, making working on the single branch platform line safer.
