GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd721
Looking towards Wolverhampton and showing the erection of
the steelwork for the new 'Top' shed on 2nd August 1939. In order to maintain
the maximum amount of revenue earning traffic possible, the new building was
erected in stages as was the demolition of the original Outwards and Tranship
shed. The extra width of the new building can be gauged from the above
photograph. The half-cab 0-6-0PT is marshalling trains on a quieter day than
seen in other photographs, presumably reflecting it was holiday time, with the
start of the Second World War being just a month away.
