The old Inwards shed, now known as the Bottom shed, seen from the Pitsford Street side of the depot

The old Inwards shed, now known as the Bottom shed, seen from the Pitsford Street side of the depot towards the end of its working life. The original configuration of the Inwards shed was an opening on both sides of the building as seen on the right. This opening was built for a mixed gauge siding (for both broad and standard gauge vehicles - they shared the rail nearest the platform) running down the inside of the wall and terminating at the opposite gable wall. The 1939 conversion saw the left hand side of the gable end altered to allow the shunting spur (seen in image 'gwrhd723') to pass into the building. The extra siding which ran the length of the building can be seen in this photograph. In parallel with this modification a new office block was built on the front to a design common with that used on the Amenities Block (see image 'gwrhd673'). By this date the building was being used as the Road Motor Engineer's service station with the foreman's office on the ground floor. The shunters were accommodated on the first floor of the block. To the front and left of this building are the tanks storing the diesel for the road vehicles.
