GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd691
Looking south showing the Outward and Tranship shed and
sidings and a GWR 0-6-0ST on the connecting lines circa 1914. The yard was to
be heavily remodelled in the 1930s and the above shed was demolished and
replaced by the much larger 'Top Shed' which combined 'Inwards, Outwards and
Tranship facilities'. This view, taken at the beginning of the First World War,
shows that a substantial amount of freight was moved in open wagons compared to
twenty or so years later when Box vans predominated. The enclosed area on the
right has been formed with iron railings and appears to be grassed and paved
with borders etc.
