Close up showing the lift shaft, signals and water crane located at the Birmingham end of the island platforms

Close up of image 'gwrhd110' showing the lift shaft, signals and water crane located at the Birmingham end of the island platforms. The signal gantry is accommodating signals for both sides of the island platform with the signal on the left and pointing left controlling up traffic leaving platform 2, and the pair of signals to the right and pointing downwards controlling traffic entering platform 3. At the bottom of the ramp is a notice warning passengers not to cross the lines but to use the lift or stairs and a fog man's hut. The water crane was secured parallel to the lines by a chain hooked on to the funnel which caught excess water dripping from the column after use. The lift is standing at platform level as indicated by the scissor gates being open. The notice board painted with a white background with a figure '6' displayed was erected by British Railways to indicate to drivers of the 6 car DMU trains where to stop.
