GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Henley in Arden - New Station: gwrha1395
Henley-in-Arden's water tower dominated the approach to the
station towering above two sets of steps to the passenger footbridge. The water
tank provided the water to both water cranes and all the 'not-drinking water'
used throughout the station. The water was extracted direct from an underground
borehole rather than from mains water. Not only was this cheaper than buying
the water from the utility companies being raised above the adjacent structures
meant the water tank provided a head of pressure ensuring the water would
quickly fill the tanks of a locomotive.
