GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Earlswood Lakes Station: gwrel2875
Ex-GWR 4-6-0 No 6922 'Burton Hall' passes the down refuge
siding and the raised upper quadrant signal in early 1965. The refuge siding
has trap points fitted in order to derail any train that tried to move out of
the siding without the authority of the signalman. The lamp head code of one on
the smokebox door and the other in the centre above the bufferbeam indicated
that it was a Type 8 working classified by British Railways post 1962 as for
'Through freight train NOT fitted with the automatic brake. Maximum speed 35
mph. Where fitted vehicles are required to be placed next to the engine and
coupled up, this will be shewn in the appropriate regional train loading
instructions.' Built by Swindon works to Lot 340 in July 1941, No 6922 was
to remain in service for just a few weeks after the photograph was taken being
withdrawn in April 1965 from 2A Tyseley shed to be scrapped by Birds of Long
Marston.
