Another view of ex-Southern Railway 4-6-2 Battle of Britain
class No 34051 'Sir Winston Churchill' at Snow Hill station. The Stephenson
Locomotive Society's special involved ten coaches of enthusiasts completing a
circular route commencing and ending at Snow Hill headed by three locomotives
in total. Locomotive No 34051 undertook the first leg leaving Birmingham Snow
Hill and travelling to Salisbury via Leamington Spa, Oxford, Reading West
Junction, Southcote Junction, Basingstoke and Andover before arriving at
Salisbury. Ex-SR 4-6-2 Merchant Navy class No 35017 'Belgian Marine' undertook
the leg from Salisbury to Westbury travelling via Gillingham, Exeter Central,
Exeter St Davids, Taunton, Cogload Junction and Castle Cary before arriving at
Westbury. British Railways built 4-6-0 Castle class No 7029 'Clun Castle'
undertook the return leg starting at Westbury and calling at Bathampton
Junction, Bath Spa, West Somerset Junction, Dr Days Bridge Junction,
Westerleigh Junction, Yate, Tuffley Junction, Gloucester Eastgate, Barnwood
Junction, Cheltenham Spa Lansdown, Abbotswood Junction, Norton Junction,
Worcester Shrub Hill, Droitwich Spa, Kidderminster, Stourbridge Junction and
Old Hill before finally arriving back at Birmingham Snow Hill.
