British Railways built 5MT 4-6-0 No 44691 enters the station at the head of an up express service on 9th June 1965. Built by Horwich works in October 1950, No 44691 was one of a 842 strong class of locomotive designed by William Stanier and colloquially known as 'Black 5s' to differentiate them from his Jubilee class of express locomotives. This locomotive was to remain in service until April 1967 when it was withdrawn from 12D Workington shed to be scrapped by GH Campbell of Airdrie.
