The main platforms of Snow Hill station looking North towards Wolverhampton showing how light flooded in through the main glazed roof to illuminate the platforms. Above the tracks are the strutted roof girders soaring across the 103 foot span between the middle of each island platform. These were the structural support to the transverse bay trusses, which each spanned 35 feet 10 inches. Each transverse roof bay terminated in a grand elliptical arch adjacent to the central opening, while another arch penetrated the end wind screen above the four tracks. These features were both; practical - shielding the platforms while allowing locomotive smoke to escape, and architectural – adding a graceful feeling of space and light to the station.
