A 56ft long ganged Brake Third clerestory coach (diagram D29) believed to be No.3446 waits at the rear of an Up train in platform 7 at Snow Hill Station in 1947. Coach No.3446 was completed 1st November 1902 as part of lot 998. It had three third class compartments and a passenger’s lavatory. The photograph shows the corridor side. In the centre of the coach was a guard’s compartment with protruding lookouts. At the rear end was a large (28ft 6in long) van compartment. Bodywork repairs have resulted in several flush panels replacing the original ornate panelwork. These coaches were condemned a few years after this photograph was taken, in around December 1950.
