Ex-GWR 4-6-0 Castle class No 4083 'Abbotsbury Castle' is seen blowing off steam whilst standing at Platform 7 at the head of an up express service to Paddington on 30th May 1955. On the GWR's pre-building list of forthcoming locomotives to be built No 4083 was to have been named 'Oystermouth Castle'. Built at Swindon works in May 1925 No 4083 was first allocated to Old Oak Common shed before being recorded at Canton shed in Cardiff in August 1950 and Newton Abbot shed in March 1959. Allocated again to Canton shed in Cardiff No 4083 was withdrawn from service in December 1961 to be scrapped immediately at Swindon works.
