Stanier 2-8-0 No 8400 is seen standing light engine after piloting from Leamington a failed Hall class locomotive on the 7 10am express from Paddington on 6th July 1946. To the right is the Southern Railway coaching stock employed on the Wolverhampton to Weymouth service. Built at Swindon works for the LMS in June 1943 No 8400 was initially employed by the GWR until it was returned to the LMS where it remained in service until August 1968, the very last month of steam, when it was withdrawn from Rose Grove shed to be scrapped in December 1968 by TW Ward Ltd of Beighton in Sheffield.
