British Railways Class 56062 passes through the exchange branch with a down freight on 20th August 1980. Andy Hoare writes' The train is about to join the ex-GWR route from Snow Hill to Paddington via Leamington Spa. There was much squeeling of flanges against rails, as the junction goes through 90 degrees. This train would have had a class 25 to assist from Washwood Heath, as the bank is fairly steep and 40+ HAA's is a fair load, the working was probably the 6V65 12.15 Bagworth Colliery to Didcot PS. A yard was still in use on the down side, see the cartics to the left of the loco. Where I stood used to be an extensive up yard, I can still remember seeing 9F's waiting to take freights south from there back in the early 1960s'.
