GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Bordesley Station: gwrbg3996
This Great Western Railway Land Survey Plan from 1878 shows
the land purchased by the Birmingham & Oxford Junction Railway with the
development up to that date marked in blue. Those areas marked in red are the
subsequent land purchases and disposals associated with the development of the
site and necessary for the later quadrupling of the main line. The developments
included on this plan are:
- The Bordesley Locomotive Depot. Note the 1855 Broad Gauge
Engine Shed (centre) became the Carriage Shed after a larger Engine Shed was
constructed (far right)
- Junction with the Midland Railway (top left) with three
Reception Roads for the exchange traffic
- Development of the Marshalling Yard sidings (across the
top of the plan). These were the Baltic and Baulk sidings, which were used for
assembling freight trains for various destinations
- Small Heath Goods Yard (bottom right) adjacent to the
Warwick & Birmingham Canal (see also gwrsh3995)
After the quadrupling new Land Survey Plans were drawn.
