Ex-GWR 2-6-0 No 6319 passes through Bordesley station on a Type 4 down freight in July 1961. The fireman can be seen taking it comfortably for the last few miles being posed lying on the coal with head over his eyes. Built as a member of the 43xx Class at Swindon works to Lot 21 in February 1921, No 6319 was to remain in service until August 1963 when it was withdrawn from 85B Gloucester Horton Road shed to be scrapped by Coopers Metals. A Type 4 train was described in British Railway's Reporting Codes as being 'Express freight train pipe fitted throughout with the automatic brake operative on NOT less than 90% of the vehicles. Maximum speed 55 mph. A maximum speed of 60 mph will apply in respect of certain trains specifically indicated in the Working Timetable'.
