GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Acocks Green & South Yardley Station: gwrag1075

Looking towards the road bridge which crossed over the railway adjacent to Acocks Green station which is to the left of Sherbourne Road circa 1900. The bridge was the demarcation point between Sherbourne Road and Yardley Road which ran from the other side to what is now the A45 Coventry Road. Entrance to the station was via steps and pathway from either side of the bridge to each platform. There is evidence that there might have been pathway from Roberts Road - at least adjacent to Sherbourne Nurseries - which was at the other end of the station. Whilst the brick wall to the right is thought to belong to the residence next to the station, the timber fencing is believed to be railway property. To the right of the bowler hatted gentlemen is an early cylinder type post box and lamppost which lit the path.
