Looking from the junction of the Midland Railway's Evesham to Birmingham line showing the head shunt on the right used by GWR locomotives to access the engine shed. The head shunt was not protected by a buffer stop just a pile of earth indicating the branch line's low status. The piece of equipment covering the left hand rail is thought to be a semi-permanent safety feature to prevent locomotives from passing beyond the signal. The Midland Railway short signal post on the left replaced the very tall post that was first erected when the line first opened (see image 'gwr-mra137'). It was decommissioned when the line was taken out of use during the First World War.
