Home From the Seaside

Home From the Seaside - Philip Hawkins, Fellow of the Guild Railway Artists.

The painting portrays ex-GWR 4-6-0 No 5063 'Earl Baldwin' at the head of the northbound Cornishman approaching Danzey for Tanworth circa 1960. Initially built by Swindon works to be named as No 5063 Thornbury Castle to Lot 303 in June 1937, No 5063 was, within a week, renamed 'Earl Baldwin' which it carried until February 1965 until it was withdrawn from 2B Oxley shed in Wolverhampton to be scrapped by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
