Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn 0-6-0T No 3 (Works No 7537) waits, while in the background Peckett 'W5' class 0-4-0ST No 1 (Works No 1438) collects a rake of empty mineral wagons from sidings adjacent to the Nechells A Power Station. Through the steam, in the distance can be seen the original wooden cooling towers. This photograph was taken on 7th March 1961 and in the 1960s, it was normal for two locomotives to be in steam daily. Duties not only included the delivery of coal and removal of empty wagons, but also the removal of the waste ash.
