LNER Route: Leicester to Marylebone
Rugby Central Station: gcrcs196
An unidentified ex-LMS 'Black Five' 4-6-0 stands on the
passing loop line waiting for a London to Nottingham express to pass through
Rugby station early in September 1966. This was just before services between
Rugby and London were withdrawn and the line abandoned. The three coach local
train to Leicester and Nottingham is made up of ex-LMS Period III vehicles.
When the down express to Nottingham has passed, the Black Five will move
forward to rejoin the main line via the points under the road bridge and then
reverse back into the platform. In the distance above the heads of the people
on the platform is the large brick built water tank used to supply the water
columns and tanks located on the platform and on the adjacent track.
