An interior view of the SMJ's Stratford on Avon shed with SMJ 0-6-0 No 10 seen on the left prior to the grouping in 1923. On the right is part of the overhead crane with the hooks of its shear legs dangling above. Shear legs were used to lift the locomotive sufficiently high enough so that wheels could be removed for maintenance. Also on the right is an inspection pit with the wheels and axles of a tender or bogie stationed on it. In the background looking towards the camera is, according to Arthur Jordan in his book on the SMJ, Tommy Duckett and his colleagues. After grouping, overhauling of the locomotives was carried out at Saltley as the SMJ's Stratford shed became a sub-shed of the ex-Midland Railway facility leaving just Tommy and his colleague Ted Hobbis as the shed's fitters.
