Ex-LMS 8P 4-6-2 No 46239 'City of Chester' passes Water Orton's replacement signal whilst at the head of a parcels service from Leicester on 3rd May 1964. The new Water Orton East Junction signal box had been erected in the late 1950s following a freight train derailment which had demolished the earlier Midland Railway signal box. It was for a long time used as a store for the Permanent Way gang. Built by Crewe works in August 1939, Coronation Class No 46239 was to remain in service until October 1964 when it was withdrawn from Crewe North shed.
