Firemen from three fire brigades tackle blazing Swedish telegraph poles at Wilnecote sidings on 22nd April 1953

Firemen from three fire brigades tackle blazing Swedish telegraph poles at Wilnecote sidings on 22nd April 1953. The fire caused considerable damage destroying more than 60 of the poles. The forty foot long poles were presumably being used to replace others on the line. Although they would be treated with an oil tar based preservative the density of the timber would have made it very difficult to set them on fire so in all probability the fire would have caused by arson. Tamworth, Atherstone and Sutton Coldfield fire brigades were involved in fighting the fire.
