Both locomotives were built at the Southern Railway's Brighton works, No 48629 being built in June 1943 and No 48725 in September 1944. No 48629 was to remain in service until September 1966 when it was withdrawn from 2E Saltley shed to be scrapped by J Cashmores of Great Bridge. Classmate No 48725 remained in service until August 1967 when it was withdrawn from 5B Crewe South shed to be scrapped by J Buttigieg of Newport. D7570 was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company in October 1963 and remained in service until June 1982 when as 25220 it was scrapped by Swindon works.
