Ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 44165 is seen coming off Saltley shed's coaling road on 25th March 1964. The locomotive is carrying a single lamp on the left hand of the bufferbeam which according to British Railways' 1962 Train Reporting Codes was not appropriate for any working. According to the 1960 Train Reporting Codes it would have been heading to work a Class J Mineral or empty wagon train. Whether this was a genuine error (which seems doubtful given its four years since they applied) or whether the fireman should have placed in the centre indicating that the locomotive was running light engine is not known. Built by Crewe works in February 1926 No 44165 remained in service until August 1964 when it was withdrawn from 9L Buxton shed.
