An undated view of the north portal of Redditch tunnel with the tunnel's nameboard on the right. The length of the tunnel is given on the board as 352 yards, which Bob Essery states in his book on the line, is different to the 340 yards given on the Midland Railway Distance Diagram dated 1913. The tunnel was notorious for being very uncomfortable for crews given the lack of clearance between the top of the locomotive's chimney and the top of the tunnel. On the left is a platelayers hut and store.
