View of Redditch's single road shed, the ash pit in front
and the adjacent water crane on Sunday 22nd April 1951. The carriages opposite
Redditch North Signal Box are stabled ready for their next turn of work on the
following Monday. The line to Barnt Green was single from Redditch and started
just beyond the signal box. The new Redditch North Signal Box was open opened
on 8th November 1925 to take over the combined duties of the original Redditch
North Signal Box and Gas Works Signal Box. This occurred when the LMS
remodelled the station and extended the double track to just before the single
bore tunnel and added a new and larger goods yard and goods shed on what was
known as Pound meadow. The bracket signal on the right has two arms, the larger
one on the right controlled the main line to Barnt Green whilst the smaller
signal, both in size and in height, controlled access to the sidings.
