British Railways 0-6-0PT 64xx class No 7448 leaves Longbridge station in the late 1950s

British Railways 0-6-0PT 64xx class No 7448 leaves Longbridge station in the late 1950s with a Workman's train bound for Old Hill. The Western Region Workman's train service officially finished on 1st September 1958, but the last train actually ran on Friday 29th August 1958. The words 'The Last' were chalked on the side of the locomotive's tank and several detonators were exploded at Hunnington to mark the occasion.

No 7448 was built in April 1950 at Swindon Works as part of lot 380. The locomotive was initially allocated to Stourbridge shed, where eight 64xx class pannier tanks were allocated during the 1950s, for use mainly on the Longbridge branch. No 7448 moved to South Wales in September 1960 and was withdrawn from Pontypool Road shed in April 1963.
