LMS 4P 4-4-0 Compound No 1061 is seen at the head of a relatively heavy express service on 26th June 1929. The tender behind the locomotive was one of three built to provide a greater coal capacity for locomotives scheduled for the LMS' services from Euston to Scotland designed to compete with the LNER's Flying Scotsman service. In reality the LMS' service was more of a spoiling operation launched just before the LNER service and designed more to stop the LNER receiving favorable headlines than offering passengers a real service.
