Close up of image 'mrcgy916' showing the siding running adjacent to the wall on the Holliday Street side of the warehouse. In the foreground are the lamps used to light the yard. In June 1891 plans and estimates for lighting the sidings by a mixture of gas and electricity, costing £484 were produced. At the same time the provision of lighting the warehouse by electricity was estimated to cost £5,635. Both plans were approved by the Midland Railway's General Purpose Committee meeting on 16th July 1891. In the view seen above each lamp post has a gas lamp of one style at the top of the post and a second lamp of a different style on a bracket at a lower level. On the warehouse wall above the siding are lamps similar in style to the second lamp. However to the immediate left of the lamp post on the right a lamp on the wall of a style similar to that seen on top of the lamp post is evident. This would suggest that the yard was initially lit by lamps to the design seen on top of the post and were later deemed not sufficiently bright enough requiring additional lighting to be added.
