Ex-Midland Railway 3F 0-6-0 No 43246 is seen working hard as it banks a Class K short pick up mineral service through St Andrews on 6th May 1956. The gradient at St Andrews was about 1 in 62 easing to 1 in 85 through Camp Hill and therefore most heavy goods needed to banked through to Camp Hill if not beyond. Bankers would be waiting to help opposite Washwood Heath Sidings No 1 Signal Box as seen in image 'mrwhg458'. Built by Neilson & Company in 1890 No 43246 remained in service until November 1956 when it was withdrawn from Saltley shed to be scrapped sometime in 1956 by Derby works.
