LMS Route: Birmingham West Suburban Railway
Bournville Shed: mrb680
British Railways 3F 0-6-0s standing around the turntable at
Bournville on Sunday 21st December 1958. There were ten allocated to the depot
according to the ABC shed book of the time, which made the 3F the most numerous
type of engine there. There were many more at Saltley and they were still a
commonplace sight pulling freight trains in the area. The 3Fs were former
Midland Railway engines whose saturated Belpaire boiler design dated back to
1916. They were classed as rebuilds, keeping the numbers of older engines
dating back to the Johnson era.
