British Railways built B1 4-6-0 No 61284 is seen standing over the ash pit at Bournville shed in October 1957. The B1 was allocated to 40B Immingham shed at the time and is thought to have worked into New Street with a service from the Cleethorpes area. Built in February 1948 by the North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow, No 61284 was to remain in service until September 1962 when it was withdrawn from 40A Lincoln shed (Great Northern) to be scrapped by A Loom of Spondon. The train No 61284 had brought in to Birmingham was, to our knowledge, the only regular passenger train to use the short section of ex-GC line between Pelham Street Junction and Lincoln St Mark's until the Newark chord was connected, making this the main line from Newark to Cleethorpes. British Main Line Services in the Age of Steam mention that it was introduced as a summer train in the late 1930s. It was re-introduced after the Second World War and ran until the early 1960s.
