Ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 44516 and ex-MR 2F 0-6-0 No 58167 stand around the roundhouse's turntable in June 1959. Built as LMS No 4516 at Crewe works in June 1928 it was renumbered by British Railways in June 1949 and as No 44516 it was to remain in service until September 1964 when it was withdrawn from 2E Saltley shed. Originally built to a Johnson design in 1876 by Neilson & Company of Glasgow, it entered service as MR No 1226. It was renumbered in 1907 to become MR No 2994, and kept that number when the Midland became part of the LMSR. It was modernised in 1927, when it was fitted with a G6 Belpaire boiler and a better cab, significantly altering its appearance. It retained these for the rest of its existence. Inherited by British Railways, it was not renumbered No 58167 until July 1952.
