Bournville shed's entrance with the Midland Railway 'Stop' warning sign on the right despite the MR having closed some thirty years previous. Also on the right, leaning against the wall, are two re-railing ramps used when the derailment was not too significant. The coach body is said to be an ex-LNWR and was used for mutual improvement classes. These classes, undertaken by staff in their free time, assisted firemen with their knowledge of the working of the steam locomotive along with the study of the rules and regulations. Passing the exams aided their career path of becoming a driver. The coach contained a number of fine models by Driver Harry Clayton, these ranged from cut away sections of brake and injector valves to a model of a completely section boiler and firebox from a Stanier Class 5 locomotive.
