View of the 1845 plan of the station which shows on the right the original terminus station which was used for both arrivals and departure and on the left the later arrivals platform. The original station was to have had a more substantive structure being surrounded on three sides by a massive brick and stone train shed. However a lighter more simple structure of a roof supported on iron columns was built which was not only cheaper, being just over half the cost, but allowed any future extension of the track to be easier. From under the canopy the passengers could access from the 8 foot wide platform both the first class or ladies waiting rooms or the spacious booking hall. Robin Leach notes in his book Rails to Kenilworth and Milverton that other facilities included a second class waiting room, lavatories, offices for porters and railway police and a pump with a sixty foot deep well. The occupation bridge which separated the station from the shed can be seen on the left.
