Ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 No 43340 approaches Soho Soap Works Junction whilst working a short train heading towards Monument Lane on 9th July 1956. The train consists of just four vehicles plus the brake van. Immediately behind the tender appears to be a open steel wagon, a bogie wagon carrying steel sections or rails, a five-plank open wagon carrying balks of timber sheeted with tarpaulins and flat wagon to act as a filler between the overhanging timbers and the brake van. On the left is the signal protecting the junction with the right hand signal in the off position, permitting the driver to move forward into the next block section. A block section is the name applied to a section of track between signals. In this instance, the section of track up to Winson Green Junction where there would be another signal protecting the junction. The signal on the left is for the spur to Perry Barr and its in in the 'on' or danger position.
